Districtwide Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program
Valid NYS Certification in Speech and Language Disabilities or TSHH/TSLD required
Speech Teachers will provide services exclusively to Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) students enrolled in both in-district UPK classrooms and community-based organizations (CBOs). These educators will play a vital role in fostering early language development, supporting communication readiness, and addressing speech and language delays during a critical period of learning.
The selected candidates will work collaboratively with the UPK Liaison, classroom teachers, CBO partners, and families to ensure equitable access to speech-language services aligned with NYS Early Learning Standards.
In addition to individualized and small-group support, Speech Teachers will deliver Tier 1, whole-group speech and language lessons weekly to Universal Pre-Kindergarten classes, with a focus on oral language development, phonemic awareness, and articulation. These classroom-based lessons will reinforce foundational communication skills for all students in an inclusive and developmentally appropriate manner.
Successful candidates will:
- Demonstrate strong foundational knowledge of early childhood speech and language development
- Conduct screenings, evaluations, and deliver individualized or small-group therapy to support students’ communication needs
- Collaborate with the UPK Liaison to align service delivery across multiple UPK sites, ensuring continuity and equity
- Provide consultation and coaching to UPK classroom staff to support language-rich environments
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to data collection for program reporting
- Display cultural responsiveness and effective family communication practices
- Have experience working with preschool-aged children, preferably in diverse or inclusive settings
- Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to travel between district and community sites as needed
