PUBLIC RELATIONS SPECIALIST

 

Position Overview:

Longwood Central School District is seeking a dynamic, experienced Public Relations Specialist to develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies that enhance the district’s image, strengthen community relationships, and effectively communicate our educational mission and achievements to all stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan aligned with the district’s goals and objectives
  • Serve as the primary media contact and district spokesperson, managing media relations and press inquiries
  • Create compelling content for various communication channels, including the district website, social media platforms, newsletters, press releases, and publications
  • Coordinate crisis communications and provide guidance to district leadership during sensitive situations
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent, Board of Education, and administrative team to ensure consistent messaging
  • Build and maintain relationships with local media outlets, community organizations, and key stakeholders
  • Oversee the district’s social media presence, ensuring timely and engaging content
  • Plan and coordinate special events, ceremonies, and community engagement initiatives
  • Manage the development and production of the district’s annual report and other key publications
  • Provide communications support for the Board of Education and district-wide initiatives
  • Supervise and mentor communications staff as applicable, along with the district communications team

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communications strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences
  • Strong media relations experience and crisis communications management skills
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools, content management systems, and social media platforms
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles and experience with design software (Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Understanding of video production and photography principles
  • Experience working with public officials and community stakeholders
  • Familiarity with K-12 education issues, policies, and best practices
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and team-building skills
  • Strategic thinker with exceptional problem-solving abilities
  • Experience with brand development and management

Salary: $100,000/ annual contract

Candidate must be Civil Service Certified
